Cureton downs Grecians
Cheltenham stretched their unbeaten league run to 11 games with a determined 1-0 Boxing Day victory over Exeter.
And it was only down to the exploits of the two goalkeepers that there was a solitary goal at the end of a scintillating clash.
Cheltenham should have opened the scoring in the seventh minute when a David Noble strike was brilliantly saved low down by keeper Artur Krysiak.
The breakthrough came five minutes later when a long clearance from home keeper Scott Brown was headed on by Byron Harrison and Jamie Cureton nipped in to stab the ball home against his former club.
The striker was then denied a second by Krysiak in the 17th minute with Harrison lobbing an effort wide 10 minutes later as the Robins continued to push.
As half time approached Harrison headed over and defender Connor Goldson saw a shot deflected just wide.
City took control after the break and Scott Brown needed to pull off an excellent stop to deny David Wheeler 17 seconds into the half before palming away a fierce drive from Tom Nichols.
The woodwork intervened in the closing stages, Cureton heading against the upright for the Robins with Alan Gow curling a magnificent free-kick against the outside of the post.
And injury time brought another fine Brown save to keep out a rasping Liam Sercombe effort.
