Mark Yates faces a selection dilemma at the heart of defence for Cheltenham`s home clash against Southend. Centre-half Martin Riley made his long-awaited return from hamstring problems to play the entire 90 minutes of Saturday`s 4-2 victory at Accrington, replacing Steve Elliott who missed out due to a tight calf. However, the ever-reliable Elliott returned to training on Monday, along with full-back Danny Andrew (ankle), and should be in contention to face the Shrimpers. Midfielder David Bird, Town`s record holder for Football League appearances, will make his 300th career outing at Whaddon Road if selected. Striker Wes Thomas was back in training on Monday after his calf injury and although the clash will come too soon for him, Saturday`s FA Cup encounter against Morecambe is a realistic target. Captain Michael Pook (calf) has an outside chance of making the league trip to Hereford on November 13.
