Robins boss eager to keep Alsop

He has been signing month-by-month deals ever since he first arrived for his second spell at the club, but his 13 starts and 13 substitute appearances highligh his worth to the League Two outfit.

Alsop's two goals so far this season have taken his Cheltenham tally to 37 - just one behind Martin Devaney in the club's list of all-time Football League goalscorers. And while his latest contract runs until mid-February, Yates has hinted there may be a longer deal in the reckoning.

"Since I've been back here Jules has been fantastic," he told the club's official website. "He's a leader in the dressing room and a big part of the squad.

"I'm delighted that he's signed another extension and I would like to keep him until the end of the season. He's a big handful for defenders but he also cares a lot about the club and that is the type of person we want here."
