Roarie Deacon strikes late as Sutton see off Cheltenham in FA Cup second round

Roarie Deacon's strike in the sixth minute of injury time secured another FA Cup occasion to savour for Sutton United as they disposed of League Two Cheltenham Town 2-1.

Cheltenham were on top in the first half, with Danny Wright nearly putting them in front after beating Ross Worner to a long ball, but his shot was tame and the goalkeeper was able to recover his position in the seventh minute.

James Dayton's shot was turned around the post by Worner in the 29th minute and Rob Dickie saw a header cleared off the line a minute later.

But the Robins took a deserved lead in the 34th minute when James Dayton's free-kick was turned into the net by Danny Wright.

Sutton came out firing at the start of the second half and levelled just 34 seconds after the restart.

Bedsente Gomis' ball from the left was not dealt with by Cheltenham and Matt Tubbs, who signed from Forest Green on Thursday, finished confidently for a debut goal.

Gomis forced Russell Griffiths into a diving save and the goalkeeper also blocked well to deny Deacon in the 73rd minute.

Dickie saw a header bounce off the bar for Cheltenham, but Deacon sent Gander Green Lane into raptures in the final seconds with a dramatic strike, low into the bottom-left corner.
