Jaanai Gordon rescues point for Newport at Cheltenham
Substitute Jaanai Gordon rescued a 1-1 draw as Sky Bet League Two basement boys Newport made it four unbeaten in a dour battle at Cheltenham.
The Robins looked to have pinched a precious win courtesy of Kyle Wootton's 62nd-minute rebound but County fought until the end and warranted their share of the spoils.
There was no goalmouth action in the first half with Craig Reid's wild volley over the crossbar and Sid Nelson's thump into the chest of home goalkeeper Scott Brown all the visitors had to show for their efforts.
Newport had a series of shots blocked in two scrambles at the start of the second half but Cheltenham led when Dan Holman's clever lob bounced back off the post and Scunthorpe loanee Wootton squeezed home the loose ball despite Joe Day's best efforts.
Robins defender Emmanuel Onaraise cleared his own crossbar while defending a corner before Newport's Darren Jones saw his header cleared off the line by Tin Platovic from Josh Sheehan's set piece with nine minutes to go.
It was all County at the death and with Day up for a corner, play was spread out to Gordon and he guided across Brown from the left edge of the box amid the chaos in the third minute of injury-time.
