Cheltenham went down to two first half goals by leaders Plymouth, in a game watched my more than 18,000 fans. Plymouth finished the season with 102 points.
Most Cheltenham fans would have been happy to finish 4th at the start of the season, but with a top 3 finish looking likely in the last few weeks, it doesn't quite feel the same. Town must now travel to Hartlepool next week in the play off's.
After the game Steve Cotterill said: "My initial reaction is to be very disappointed, of course,"
"This is the second time in three years that we have missed out on something on the final day of the season.
"But we did not miss out on promotion through today's result. Over the course of the season we have had chances to nail three points to the board and not taken them. We can look back on the games at Halifax, Macclesfield and Carlisle, for example.
"Plymouth is a very difficult place to come and get a result so we did not miss out because of today but because of things that happened earlier in the season."
